Assistant Vice President, Operations Robert Wood Johnson
University HospitalJob Overview:The Assistant Vice President (AVP)
of Operations at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is
responsible for the leadership and oversight of the Lab, Radiology,
Neuroscience, Respiratory, Bio-Med, and Patient Equipment
departments, and for the overall quality of care delivered
throughout the hospital. They will also be responsible for
developing and implementing operational policies and practices, and
planning, coordinating, and directing operational activity for the
campus in accordance with RWJBarnabas Health's mission, vision,
values, and regulatory requirements.Reports To:The AVP of
Operations reports directly to the Vice President of Operations at
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in Business Administration, Healthcare
Administration or Public Administration required
- 7-10 years successful senior healthcare management and
financial leadership experience required, preferably within an
academic medical center
- Demonstrated experience in effectively managing all aspects of
hospital operations with experience with financial performance in a
complex matrixed healthcare organization
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategic
business opportunities that produce new and continuing sources of
revenue
- Demonstrated experience delivering exceptional quality and
financial performance
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills to effectively
develop subordinatesEssential Functions:
- Oversee operations of the Lab, Radiology, Neuroscience,
Respiratory, Bio-Med, and Patient Equipment departments to ensure
efficiency and high-quality patient care
- Maintain visible presence throughout the hospital and be
available on-call for urgent operational issues, ensuring prompt
resolution and support for staff and patient needs
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement
strategic plans for operational improvement
- Establishes and integrates standards of care and practice in
all areas of responsibility
- Responsible for coordinating all business operations, including
financial activities for the effective management and operation of
the hospital
- Takes a leadership role in the development of patient care
programs, policies, and procedures that describe how patients care
needs are assessed, evaluated and met
- Works with the President, members of management and the medical
staff to develop and implement operational strategy, and to develop
and achieve fiscally responsible operational performance
objectives
- Participates with leaders from the governing body, management,
medical staff, and clinical areas in planning, promoting and
conducting organization-wide performance improvement
activities
- Implements the findings of current research from literature
into policies and procedures
- Responsible for implementing an effective and ongoing program
to monitor, evaluate, and improve the quality of care delivered to
patients
- Continuously assess and improve department performances
- Allocates adequate resources for measuring, assessing and
improving the hospital's performance
- Ensures that services are provided for, with respect to
quality, consumer and physician acceptability, and appropriate
cost
- Establishes improvement activities aimed at ensuring compliance
with all federal and state regulations and accrediting
organizations
- Serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and
will attend the meetings of the Joint Management council and the
Operations committee on a regular basis
- Works closely with the executive and senior leadership team in
the broader areas of planning and development
- Collaborates with system service line leadership
- Supports the systems overall mission of patient care, community
